Fraud update

Submitted by Miranda on October 17, 2008 – 5:55 am9 Comments

A few days ago I posted about how someone had used my information to place an order with Netzero.. including my name, my security question (AND answer), my phone number, etc… anyways, if you didn’t get a chance to read that post you can read it by CLICKING HERE.

We printed out my credit report and thankfully there was nothing out of the ordinary on there, everything looked great! I was fully expecting to at least find a small strange credit card in my name.

I decided to go ahead and call the sheriff’s office to report it and they couldn’t do it since NetZero didn’t get an address from whoever placed this order. I can’t think of a time I was ever aloud to place a phone or online order without first giving my address, can you?!

I’m just EXTREMELY thankful there are no new credit cards I didn’t know about in my name. Because I set up the fraud alert I will also be notified if someone tries to open a new account in my name so I feel somewhat protected. I have to just hope and pray that I don’t need a new credit card for some reason! I don’t know why this clown decided to use my information the way they did but it certainly didn’t get them anywhere.

Wow! It’s awful you had to go through that, but I’m glad it turned out ok. I’m always worried about identity theft.

Thank God! I hope the sheriff will look into it. Will they try to find the address out?

Thank God nothing horrible came of this and everything seemed to work out okay! It’s horrible to think that there are people out there that would do this sort of thing!

wow! That is so scary. My husband and I both signed up for that identity insurance thing you see commercials for with the CEO handing out his SSN on the street. love your blog — so glad I found it, sorry you had such a yucky situation happen. It could have been SO MUCH Worse.
