My 100th Blog Post! 10 Things I’ve Learned About Blogging

Submitted by Miranda on October 20, 2008 – 4:05 pm20 Comments

What DO you write for your 100th blog post? I feel as though it should be somewhat important as it’s kind of like a stepping stone in the world of blogging. But I don’t have the answer. Instead I turned to Twitter and ask my followers, “What should I write for my 100th blog post?” and was told I should write 100 things I love about blogging.. I honestly don’t think I can make it to 100 with my mommy brain. I’m tired and exhausted and I have a 2 year old sitting on my lap right now.

Instead I think I will tell you just 10 things I’ve learned about blogging since I’ve started.

1- Blog Design is VERY important! Since Having Lindsey of Mommy Chronicles redesign my blog, I’ve gained more traffic than I ever would have expected. I also highly recommend getting a 3 column blog.. it is SO much easier to organize.

2- It’s important to try and reply or comment back to the people who’ve visited your blog and left comments on your posts. It can take a long time depending on the number of responses you’re getting but it’s important in forming those relationships with your readers.

3- People like pictures with those yummy recipe posts.

4- Twitter does wonders for your site traffic and I’ve met a lot of wonderful people on there.

5- Write it on paper first.. then copy it to your blog. It’s easier to organize your thoughts that way when you’re writing a long post.

6- You can meet lots of other mommy bloggers by joining these sites;
The Mom Blogs, Twitter Moms,  Mom Bloggers Club.

7- Have a way for people to contact you directly on your blog! I’ve been contacted many times about doing reviews and giveaways this way. You want to make it easy for companies to contact you.

8- Do not call half of your readers racist, sexist, or any other “ist”.. it’s rude and half of your readers will never read your blog again. I didn’t do this myself but I read a blog that said if you weren’t voting for Obama you were racist.. insteresting theory but simply not true of all her readers. I bet she lost half of her readers!

9- Have a button with a code for your readers to grab. It makes it easy on them AND you! :)

10- And last but not least.. be cautious in posting your full name and names or your children, where you live, etc. It makes me SO nervous! There’s far too many fruit loops out there. If you’re like my husband you’re probably thinking “this girl is so paranoid!” but if you’re like me you read the news and know that this is important!

Thank you to all of my readers for reading Keeper of the Cheerios… you might know more about me than my own husband! Just kidding. I am looking forward to the continuing growth of my blog, future posts, and all of the readers and fellow blog writers I know I’ll meet. Wish me luck as I venture on to the next 100 posts!

Don’t forget to vote for Keeper of the Cheerios!
