When did making silly faces become a crime?

Submitted by Miranda on February 6, 2009 – 1:25 pm4 Comments

I get the US Magazine updates in my email and I couldn’t help but notice that Miley Cyrus was in the news, once again… for something completely ridiculous!

Apparently she posted pictures on her blog of her and her friends making silly faces. Because she pulled on the sides of her eyes she’s now accused of being racist. I was laughing out loud as I read the article because I guess we aren’t allowed to make funny faces anymore without people reading way too far into it. This is absolutely ridiculous. The poor girl can’t move or breathe. If this is the worst thing the media could find on her then they need to find some more entertaining news. I personally wasn’t aware that making silly faces with my friends was a racist thing to do… I guess we just can’t win these days can we?

My daughter is obsessed with Miley Cyrus and Hannah Montana and I personally think she’s a great role model so far. She’s always clothed and (so far) is not out doing what the rest of young Hollywood is out doing at that age. I hope the media doesn’t ruin her and she continues on the path she’s on. I don’t think she should have to apologize for the pictures.

I’m curious, were you aware that making silly faces and playing with your eyeballs is racist and newsworthy?

I think the media is desperate to ruin people’s lives. I used to do things like that all the time. But I am far from racist.

People are way to sensitive and way to quick to judge.

I loved her reponse! She’s always hamming it up- they should know better. Shame on the adults here!

That’s obsurd! I really feel sorry for her. She’s (so far) a good kid and my daughter loves her! I just really hope she doesn’t pull a Briney and become a wacko! Britney used to be a good kid too. The media really needs to find someone else to pick on!

Sounds like it was a slow news day.
