Oatmeal Kiss Cookies

My daughter and I made these delicious cookies from Taste of Home last weekend. They’re definitely a family-favorite now, even my picky husband loved them.
Oatmeal Kiss Cookies
1/2 C. butter, softened
1/2 C. shortening
1 C. sugar
1 C. packed brown sugar
2 eggs
2 C. all-purpose flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
2-1/4 C. quick-cooking oats
1 C. nuts (I left these out and they turned out great still)
about 72 milk chocolate kisses
In a large bowl, cream the butter, shortening and sugars until the mixture is light and fluffy. Add the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Combine the flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add to the creamed mixture and mix well. Stir in oats and nuts (if you’re using the nuts). Roll into 1-inch balls and place 2 inches apart on an ungreased baking sheet. Bake at 375 degrees for 10-12 minutes or until lightly browned. After removing from oven immediately place a chocolate kiss into the center of each cookie and remove to wire cooling racks.

I love making these cookies but……my mom ruined it for me when she told me she thought the cookies looked like nipples. LOL I was soooo upset.
[...] My daughter and I decided that it would be a lot of fun to have a “sleepover” in our living room to celebrate her last night and morning of “freedom” before returning school and to early morning wake-ups, rushing around, and back to a life full of reading and tons of homework. I wanted to make this a fun night with tons of time for talking and to just enjoy being together so we started the night off by baking cookies so that she had a special little treat to put into her lunches all week. We decided on Oatmeal Kiss Cookies because they’re fun to make (and we kinda wanted to eat some hershey’s kisses). You can find the recipe for them HERE. [...]
