Surprise! Surprise! A Party and a New Dog!
This past weekend we took my sister back home after what she claims to be the longest and hardest week of her life.. all she did was watch my kids while I was in Chicago during the day time while my husband was at work. Okay, I have to give her credit here, my kids are TOUGH! My daughter is 8 going on 15 and my son is like a possessed version of Bam-Bam. I mean that in the kindest most motherly way possible. They’re great kids but they can be tough on babysitters, especially teenage babysitters. I’m proud to say my children didn’t attack her and that they lived through her breakfasts and lunches consisting of microwaveable foods and juice boxes. I don’t think it was that bad, I think she just missed her boyfriend in all reality and she was excited to get back to her new job. I really wish someone could have recorded her changing diapers though because I guess it involved the usual diapers and wipes but also a little bit of gagging and a plastic bag “just in case.” Clearly, she’s probably THRILLED to be home and she may never want to babysit for me again.
Since my daughter likes to read through a lot of what I write I wasn’t able to tell you all about the huge surprise party my mom has been busy planning for my daughter which was another reason we had planned on going back home this specific weekend. My daughter doesn’t turn 9 until the end of September but because her birthday falls during school time and our family lives far away we thought it would be fun to give her a huge summer surprise party so all of her cousins and relatives could be there. My mom wanted to give her a huge and memorable birthday party so she rented a huge waterslide, my step father-in-law brought over some miniature ponies for the kids to ride on, we had a cool pinata, and the CUTEST cupcakes made by my sister. In my daughter’s own words, “That was the BEST party EVER! Even better than my Tinkerbell party!” and she’s been telling EVERYONE about her surprise party, even kids she hardly knows. This was definitely her best party ever, even us adults had a blast playing on the waterslide and everyone had a great time. Here’s a few of my favorite pictures from her surprise birthday party.

We ended the weekend with our family with lots of love, hugs, thank you’s, and goodbyes. I insisted on saying goodbye to my mom who was out helping a family member so of course, naturally.. I ended up with a new animal. I knew I should have just called her! My mom attracts animals in need of help like nobody else I’ve ever seen. So, anyways, we now have 5 animals- our 3 cats, Sadie (our obnoxious dog), and now Lincoln (a.k.a Linky). Linky is a Miniature Schnauzer and his “adoption” is going to be in a whole new post so I can show off our funny little dog with the crazy eyebrows.
I’m now done with traveling for awhile and finally getting back into the swing of things. I’m starting to get caught up on everything that’s been put on the back burner until now. I’ve also been a little sick and I’m finally feeling better. This Summer is just flying right on by and I feel like there aren’t enough hours in the day to get everything done that I need to do. This mommy needs a vacation… or a nap. I’ll take either!
