Preparing For Our Son’s Sedated Hearing Test
Tomorrow is our son’s sedated hearing test and I’m scared. Between 1-3 tomorrow we’ll be at the PICU and experiencing what will probably feel like the longest 2 hours of our life. I imagine it will feel even longer for our son. I hate the idea of leaving him in a room with strangers while he’s completely out of it. I’m sure he’ll be in good hands but it doesn’t make me feel better about all of this.
It should be an interesting day with him before the procedure since he won’t be allowed to eat after 5 am tomorrow morning. I’m going to feel like the meanest mom ever tomorrow denying my 3 year old son food. It’s hard to explain things like this and reason with a 3 year old who barely understands half of what you say. But I know this test is necessary in getting him the care he needs. I want him to be able to hear everything around him and to be able to communicate with us and his friends better. It’s just difficult going through these stressful tests to get to the good stuff. When it comes to all of this I’m still feeling so caught off guard.
Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers tomorrow. We should have the results immediately following the test so we’ll know more about what’s going on and what the next step for our son will be. I will update you all as soon as I’m able.

That’s so hard! I hope everything goes well! We’ll be thinking of you!
Praying and hoping that everything went well yesterday! Keep us posted.
I hope everything goes well. If your little guy does have a hearing loss, hearing aids make a WORLD of difference (our two year old has a moderate loss and his aids have been wonderful for him)! There are a ton of resources out there for preschoolers with hearing loss, as well (John Tracy has a free correspondence course and there is a web group of parents who have hard of hearing kids at listen-up.org).
Good luck!
I know that this test is over by now and I hope you’re on your way home. This surely had to be a really hard day on you all!
