My Favorite Holiday Appetizer
On top of having a huge Thanksgiving meal I also like to make appetizers to snack on throughout the day as I’m sure many of you do too. My favorite holiday appetizer to help hold us over until it’s time for dinner is the cocktail wieners my mom always makes. We both always use Hillshire Farms Lit’l Smokies Cocktail Links which of course is a favorite in everyone’s homes. Here’s my mom’s recipe that me and my family all use:
Crockpot Cocktail Wieners
- 2 packages of Lit’l Smokies Cocktail Links
- 1- 12 oz. chili sauce
- 1 C. grape jelly
Put cocktail links in crockpot. Mix chili sauce and jelly together and pour over cocktail links. Cook on low for 6 hours. Be careful not to overcook.
If you’re concerned about the fat content you can try using the Turkey Lit’l Smokies that have 2/3 less fat than the regular Lit’l Smokies. One thing I really love about the Lit’l Smokies is that they’re so versatile and they’re perfect for many different occasions whether you’re throwing a party, enjoying Super Bowl Sunday, or you just need a great tasting snack that’s easy to put together. You can use them to make many great-tasting little appetizers like the one I shared above or you can wrap them in crescent rolls or corn bread, or heat them up and serve them with dipping sauces such as barbeque or mustard or another favorite dip, you could even put them on a skewer with your favorite veggies or fruit for a fun snack. You can find lots more recipes and ideas for the Lit’l Smokies on the Hillshire Farms website, http://www.gomeat.com. These are a great addition to your appetizers for the holidays especially if you’ve got company coming and you’re looking for a few more snack ideas to help hold your guests over until that giant turkey is done cooking. I just picked up two packages yesterday myself for our Thanksgiving feast while I was at Walmart, which by the way has a great deal on these as well! They always turn out SO GOOD and I love that I can cook them in the crockpot which frees up stove and oven space and makes keeping them warm easy. I’m really looking forward to eating these tomorrow!
I hope you all have an amazing Thanksgiving Day with your family! Enjoy your time with company and be sure to take the time to relax!
