Tasty Holiday Ideas
It’s that time of year again. Time for busy holiday shopping and time for friends and relatives to come together.. and that means having LOTS and lots of food and snacks around. If you’re preparing for a little holiday entertaining this Christmas season I think you’ll like Sara Lee’s Tasty Holiday Ideas website- it’s full of recipes and ideas.
I wrote a post before Thanksgiving about Hillshire Farms Lit’l Smokies and included a REALLY yummy recipe that my family and I always make over the holidays. I’m including it here as well in case you missed it because “it’s a keeper” as my 9 year old says.
Crockpot Cocktail Wieners
- 2 packages of Lit’l Smokies Cocktail Links
- 1- 12 oz. chili sauce
- 1 C. grape jelly
Put cocktail links in crockpot. Mix chili sauce and jelly together and pour over cocktail links. Cook on low for 6 hours. Be careful not to overcook.
This Christmas I plan on keeping the meals light and having a few appetizers throughout the day as well. I like working with the Hillshire Farms Lit’l Smokies because they’re full of protein, pre-cooked, and they make preparation easy which means more time for me to be with my family and less time on my feet — I love that! These are perfect for your holiday parties and events.
I’ve never made Pigs in a Blanket but this Christmas I’m going to cook these up and have my kids help me. I think it’ll be fun and because it only requires 2 ingredients – Hillshire Farms Lit’l Smokies Cocktail Links and 1 (8 oz.) can of refrigerated crescent dinner rolls. Call me crazy but I didn’t realize they were so easy to make! You can find the instructions for Pigs in a Blanket on the TastyHolidayIdeas.com website. This is one more great snack to add to your holiday snack line-up and it’s always a crowd-pleaser.
If you’re craving something a little different and don’t want to spend a lot of time in the kitchen grilled cheese sandwiches are always a hit with the kids or if you need something a little more “grown up” try a Waldorf Chicken Salad sandwich. TastyHolidayIdeas.com has a great recipe for this and Sara Lee has a huge variety of breads, buns, and rolls for your sandwiches. I personally like to use the Country White made with Whole Grain Bread by Sara Lee for our sandwiches… especially when I’m trying to sneak that whole grain into my children’s meals. You can find a huge selection of Sara Lee and Hillshire Farms products at your local Walmart.
While you’re visiting the website be sure to enter their contest to win a $500 Walmart gift card (right hand side of the TastyHolidayIdeas.com website is where you’ll find the contest and info). All you have to do to enter is tell them “how Sara Lee and Hillshire Farms have made your family holidays special.” You can submit pictures or write your entry. This is a fun contest and these are brands that have been a part of our households for a long time. I bet you all have some great stories to share with Sara Lee. I wish you all lots of luck in the contest!
*As a thank you for my time in writing this post, Sara Lee sent me a $30 gift card. However, all opinions are my own.
