Our Homeschooling Journey: Week 1
I thought after a week of homeschooling that I might have some grand post about our first week but to be honest I don’t really even feel like writing today. You see, all four of us have had strep throat and we’ve been on antibiotics but I still feel exhausted and my throat is still sore. I think strep is kicking my butt and winning and I need to go back to the doctor but I’m stubborn so I’m going to wait this out a little bit longer. With that being said we’ve been really good about doing our required work for school in spite of the strep throat and my daughter has gotten in her required hours and then some.
We’re enrolled with the K12.com program and I love it so far. I think it’s like having the best of both worlds.. the ability to homeschool my child and the possibility for her to move along at her own rate yet we have access to a teacher when my daughter needs extra help and someone to guide us along to make sure my daughter’s progressing in her learning the way she should. We have the flexibility to do the school work when we want to so we’re not necessarily on a Monday-Friday schedule. We just have to have so many hours a week. The curriculum is really great and something my daughter is really excited about. The rest of our supplies (books, activity kits, art stuff, supplies, etc.) will be here on Monday and then we can delve into the all of the programs even more so next week should be even more fun for us. We were also supplied with a really nice computer for my daughter to do her schoolwork on and we’ve been busy setting up a little area for her computer and all of her school supplies so she has a place to do her work.
I’m still a little amazed that we finally made this jump and just dived right in. Everything about this just feels right. I definitely feel like we’ve made the right decision. If homeschooling is something you’ve considered for your children I highly suggest looking more into it and looking at all the different options and finding one that is right for you and your kids. I don’t think you’ll regret it.

Hang in there, Mom!
One of my favorite things about homeschooling is that illness in the family doesn’t have to ruin our school schedule. We can take as much downtime as we need, then come back where we left off.
If you decide that the prepackaged online program doesn’t work for you, don’t despair. There are many different homeschooling methods. We prefer a much more relaxed schedule in our house.
Blessings to You!
Glad its going so well!! Love you guys.
I did cyberschool last year with my oldest (1st grade) and we loved it. I was nervous about teaching K to my other daughter and 2nd grade to her this year with a newborn, so I did send them back to public school. Some days I regret not doing cyberschool with them, other days I think it was a good choice. Not sure what I’m going to do next year- just feel they can get a better education at home and also concerned about a lot of negative influences in our school. Good luck with this new adventure and hope your family is feeling better!
