Wordless Wednesday: Christmas 2009

I’ve been dying to tell you all but I had to keep it a secret since my daughter sometimes looks at my blog- I was one of the 5 lucky winners at BlogHer to win a NetPal. I saved it so I could give it to my daughter for Christmas and the wait was so worth it. She was extremely surprised and it was by far her favorite gift. Her words after opening it? “Is this a computer? You got me a computer?! Are you serious?! Are you SERIOUS?! I have a computer? I HAVE A COMPUTER! OH THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!”

My son’s favorite gift was his Buzz Lightyear from his grandma. See that look of excitement on his face? It was the best!

And the worst part of course.. the aftermath of Christmas morning. Doesn’t it look like a tornado touched down in my living room?

My children are snuggled into their beds sleeping soundly in their new cozy warm pajamas. The cookies and milk for Santa are awaiting his arrival (I hope he has a strong stomach tonight because these cookies are a little goobered up. GROSS!) Presents are wrapped and ready to go and my cameras are charged as I wait for my children’s excited squeals and amazing smiles… one of my favorite parts of Christmas morning.

Last-Minute Homemade Gift Idea: Chocolate Coated Sweet Peanut Brittle

Homemade gifts are often some of the best and I enjoy making treats to share with our neighbors. This year I’ve made quite a few different items including cookies, Saint Nick cereal bars, homemade candies, etc. but this is by far my favorite. I found this recipe on the Kraftfoods.com website and it turned out SO good! This would be great alone or in addition to other treats you’re already making.

Sweet Peanut Brittle

1 Cup Sugar

1/2 Cup Light Corn Syrup

1 Tablespoon butter

2 C. Planter’s Cocktail Peanuts

1 teaspoon Baking Soda

1 teaspoon vanilla

Spray large baking sheet with cooking spray. Microwave sugar and corn syrup in a large microwaveable glass bowl on high for 5 minutes. Stir in butter and peanuts. Microwave 3-4 minutes or until pale golden brown. Stir in baking soda and vanilla. Mixture will foam. Spread into prepared baking sheet. Cool completely and break into pieces.

chocolate coating (optional):

4 squares baker’s semi-sweet chocolate

1/4 Cup Creamy Peanut Butter

Microwave chocolate in 1 C. measuring cup on high 1-2 minutes or until chocolate is melted when stirred. Add peanut butter. Stir until melted. Dip 1/2 of each candy piece into chocolate mixture; scrape bottom against edge of cup to remove excess chocolate. Place on sheet of foil or waxed paper. Refrigerate 20 minutes or until chocolate is firm.

Dear Santa

After 8 years of begging for a Barbie Jeep and a trip to Disney Land as a child and year after year of not getting those things I realized you probably didn’t exist. My doubts were confirmed by my mean big sister and my mother. I’ll never forget that conversation.. “Mom, is Santa just made up?” my mom replied with, ” Miranda, do you really believe in flying reindeer?” and then my sister laughing in the passenger seat of the car like I was the world’s biggest idiot. I said, “no….” and that was the day I stopped believing in you.

I do however have two children that still believe in you. How in the world my 9 year old daughter STILL believes in you is beyond me. Don’t the kids at school talk about Santa Claus? Maybe they’re all a little nicer than I’d given them credit for and just don’t want to burst her little bubble. She might be scarred for life when she finds out that you don’t exist.

I wish that you really did exist because my kids have quite the wish list all ready to go for you! My daughter wants a computer, a desk for her room, A Moxie Girls Artitude doll and all of the accessories that go with it along with the Moxie Girls remote control car, a lifetime supply of Littlest Pet Shop (I guess the 50 she already has isn’t enough?), and she wants everything available on the shelves at Toys R Us while you’re at it and if you want to throw in a couple wii and DS games too that would be awesome. My 3 year old son wants dinosaurs, Chuck The Talking Truck, Batman toys, anything annoyingly loud, and items that can be used as weapons against his unsuspecting sister.

Personally I think it’s a little messed up that I have to buy my kids toys with MY money and then tell them that Santa and his elves MADE them just for them. Does that not seem totally screwed up? I’d like a little credit here!

Can you tell Santa, that I’m still a little upset with you? Go ahead, put me on your naughty list! Not like you were ever going to give me that Barbie Jeep or a trip to Disney Land anyways. Maybe I’m still a little bit bitter. All the way around, I’m just not pleased with you Santa. Unless of course you want to bring me a Kindle this year OR that trip to Disney Land that you still owe me.

It’s not Christmas time quite yet but my daughter has already started talking about it. Let’s not forget the fact that she’s also been singing Christmas songs here and there too and both of the kids have been wanting to watch Christmas movies. It’s not long before Christmas is here and we’ve been watching quite a few different Christmas movies when we have the chance and we’ve really enjoyed Wubbzy’s Christmas Adventure DVD. The colorful characters in Wow Wow Wubbzy are so cute and I love the clean story lines and the fact that there’s no tacky unexpected things being said.. it’s just good clean fun and it appeals to both of my children even though they’re so far apart at the ages of 3 and 9. I actually sat down with my kids and watched this DVD and it’s really cute. My little ones adore Wubbzy and I bet your little ones will too if they don’t already.

Christmas morning

Don’t you just love watching children on Christmas morning? Their excitement is contagious. Monkey couldn’t rip through his presents fast enough and upon finishing his he tried to go after his sister’s. Miss Smarty Pants took her sweet time playing with each and every toy right after being opened. She loved the Tinkerbell fairy wings so much she wore them the rest of the morning so I now have 10 pictures of her opening up presents with big pink fairy wings on. I just love those silly little moments. I want to just take it all in and remember them forever.
